Bethpage High School won the Second Annual Long Island Ethics Bowl; Moorestown Friends School was the runner-up.


Bethpage High School wins second annual Long Island High School Ethics Bowl

Bethpage, NY - February 12, 2011 Bethpage High School won the second annual Long Island Ethics Bowl which took place at Bethpage High School. Moorestown Friends School was the runner-up.

Eight schools fielded 14 teams which analyzed a variety of issues ranging from the ethics of sexting to the ethics of polygamy. Thirty judges from diverse professions participated, including Suffolk County Legislator Jon Cooper, who judged the afternoon rounds. In addition, two reporters, from the New York Times and AOL’s Politics Daily, attended.

Wendy Way coached the winning team: Michelle Durnack, Amy Gaines, Mark Han, Matt Lipertshauser and Alex Mangano. Science teacher Barbara Kreider coached the Moorestown team.

  • Huntington High School - Peter Crugnale, coach

  • Roslyn High School - Jeri Malloy, coach (last year's winners)

  • Farmingdale High School - Celia Blum, coach

It was the first year that Huntington, Oceanside and Farmingdale participated.
